Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) adalah salah satu game yang paling dinantikan sepanjang masa. Namun, besarnyanya juga membuatnya menjadi target besar bagi para peretas. According to Reuters, the accused hacker is Arion Kurtaj, a teenage member of a hacking group called Lapsus$. He is facing 12 charges, including three counts of extortion, two counts of fraud, and six charges under the Computer Misuse Act of England.
Selain Rockstar, Kurtaj juga dituduh menargetkan perusahaan seperti Revolut, Uber, dan Nvidia, serta memeras penyedia broadband Inggris BT Group dan menuntut tebusan sebesar $4 juta. Kurtaj dianggap tidak mampu menjalani sidang karena masalah kesehatan mental.
In 2022, Rockstar Games experienced a “network intrusion” that resulted in the leak of several unfinished games and assets to social media. Rockstar acted quickly to remove the leaked material, but was unable to completely prevent its spread. Additionally, the material appeared in Goat Simulator 3 before being promptly removed.
“In terms of leaks, we take them very seriously and they disappoint us all. It truly frustrates and saddens our team,” stated Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, in response to the leak. However, from a business perspective, we are not affected. But on a personal and emotional level, our team is impacted.
Although Kurtaj did not mention his name at the time, Uber released a blog post revealing their collaboration with the FBI and the US Department of Justice to address their own data breaches. They suspected that the same hackers were responsible for the Rockstar breach.
We do not yet know when GTA 6 will be released, but it is likely to be available next year. Meanwhile, a jury will attempt to determine whether Kurtaj is responsible for the hacking charges, although the jury will not issue a guilty or not guilty verdict.
