During the San Diego Comic-Con 2023, we had the opportunity to have a discussion with Katsuhiro Harada, the director of Tekken 8, and Michael Murray, the producer. We also learned the latest details about the upcoming installment of this legendary fighting franchise.
During the interview, we discussed various topics, including how the team handles player feedback, how that feedback sometimes makes them slightly offended because it’s “overwhelmingly positive”, who is the best fighter in the Tekken universe, which moves are the most painful in real life, and many more.

How is everyone doing? Stella Chung here. I am currently at the Tekken 8 area and I am very excited because we will be speaking with the developers, Katsuhiro Harada and Michael Murray. Let’s go in and see what they can tell us. So, with the unique intro dialogues between certain characters before the match starts, do you have a favorite or preferred pairing between two specific characters?

The system you mentioned is new for Tekken 8. We have something similar to its predecessor in Tekken 7, where you press a button and can easily execute multiple commands. But this time it is more advanced. However, one interesting thing is, as you mentioned, it is great for bringing in new players, which we see they enjoy. But even if you are a veteran player, if you try using a new character that is unfamiliar to you, it is much easier if you use the special control system. So, it actually benefits various different players. So far, the response to it has been very positive.
